And it happened that when Jesus had finished all these words, he said to his disciples,
"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is being handed over to be crucified.”
At that time, the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
and they conspired together so that they might seize Jesus by stealth and kill him.
But they were saying, “Not during the feast, so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”

But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you bothering the woman? For she has done a beautiful deed for me.
For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.
For by pouring this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.
Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”

Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?”
And he said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says: My time is near; I am keeping the Passover at your house with my disciples.’”
And the disciples did as Jesus directed them and prepared the Passover.

But he answered and said, “The one who dipped his hand into the bowl with me—this one will betray me.
The Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”
Then Judas, the one betraying him, answered and said, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You yourself said it.”

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it, he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
And taking a cup, and after giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you;
for this is my blood of the covenant, which is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
But I tell you, I will certainly not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.”
And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

"But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
But Peter answered and said to him, “If everyone else is stumbled because of you, I will never be stumbled!”
Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, that during this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”
Peter said to him, “Even if it is necessary for me to die with you, I will certainly not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same thing.

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
And taking along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be grieved and deeply distressed.
Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death; remain here and stay awake with Me.”
And going forward a little, He fell on His face, praying and saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”

And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, “So, were you not strong enough to stay awake with Me for one hour?
Stay awake and pray, so that you do not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Again, for a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, let Your will be done.”
And coming again, He found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
And leaving them again, He went away and prayed for a third time, saying the same word once more.

And while He was still speaking, look—Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Now the one who was betraying Him had given them a sign, saying, “Whomsoever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him.”
And immediately, approaching Jesus, he said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him fervently.
But Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you are here for.” Then they came forward, laid hands on Jesus, and seized Him.

Those who had seized Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.
But Peter followed Him from a distance as far as the courtyard of the high priest; and going inside, he sat with the attendants to see the outcome.
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they might put Him to death,
but they found none, even though many false witnesses came forward. Finally, two came forward
and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to tear down the temple of God and build it back through three days.’”

Then the high priest tore his robes, saying, “He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, you have now heard the blasphemy!
What is your verdict?” They answered, “He is deserving of death.”
Then they spit in His face and struck Him with their fists; and some slapped Him,
saying, “Prophesy to us, You Christ! Who is the one who hit You?”
