When we had finally torn ourselves away from them and set sail, we ran a straight course to Cos, and the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.
Finding a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, we went aboard and set sail.
After catching sight of Cyprus and leaving it on our left, we sailed on to Syria and landed at Tyre, for there the ship was to unlade its cargo.
Having searched for and found the disciples, we stayed there seven days. Through the Spirit, they kept telling Paul not to set foot in Jerusalem.
But when our time there was finished, we left and continued our journey. All of them, with wives and children, escorted us out of the city; and after kneeling down on the beach and praying,
we said our farewells to one another. Then we went up into the ship, and they returned to their own homes.

Completing the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais; and after greeting the brothers, we stayed with them for one day.
On the next day, we departed and came to Caesarea. We entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven, and stayed with him.
Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.
While we were staying there for a number of days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.
He came to us, took Paul’s belt, and bound his own feet and hands, saying, “Thus says the Holy Spirit: ‘In this way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”

When we heard this, both we and the local people began urging him not to go up to Jerusalem.
Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”
Since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, saying, “The will of the Lord be done.”

Do this, therefore, what we tell you: We have four men who are under a vow.
Take these men, go through the purification rites with them, and pay their expenses so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know that there is nothing to the things they were told about you, but that you yourself live in line with the Law, keeping it.
But as for the Gentiles who have believed, we have sent a letter with our decision that they should abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, from blood, from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

When the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from the province of Asia saw him in the temple. They stirred up the entire crowd and laid hands on him,
shouting, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this place; furthermore, he even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place!”
(For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, and they assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.)

Then the commander came up, took him into custody, and ordered him to be bound with two chains. He began to inquire who he was and what he had done.
But some in the crowd were shouting one thing and some another. Since he could not learn the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into the barracks.
When Paul reached the stairs, it happened that he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob,
for the multitude of people followed, shouting, “Away with him!”

Paul answered, “I am a Jewish man, a citizen of Tarsus in Cilicia—no insignificant city. I beg you, permit me to speak to the people.”
When he had given permission, Paul, standing on the stairs, motioned with his hand to the people. When a great silence had fallen, he addressed them in the Hebrew dialect, saying:
