1Then Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem approached Jesus, saying:
2"Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”
3But He answered and said to them, “And why do you transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
4For God said, 'Honor your father and mother,' and, 'The one who speaks evil of father or mother must surely die.’
{Exodus 21:17}
5But you say: ‘Whoever says to father or mother: “Whatever benefit you might have received from me is a gift devoted to God,”
6he shall certainly not honor his father.’ Thus you have nullified the word of God for the sake of your tradition.
7Hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you, saying:
8'This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me;
9In vain do they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the mandates of men.’”
{Isa. 29:13}

What Truly Defiles

15But Peter spoke up and said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”
16And He said, “Are you still without understanding even now?
17Do you not realize that everything entering into the mouth passes into the stomach and is discharged into the latrine?
18But the things coming out of the mouth come from the heart, and those are what defile a person.
19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immoralities, thefts, false testimonies, slanders.
20These are the things that defile a person; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a person.”

21And departing from there, Jesus withdrew into the regions of Tyre and Sidon.
22And behold, a Canaanite woman from those districts came out and began to cry out, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”
23But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples approached and kept urging Him, saying, “Send her away, because she keeps shouting after us.”
24But He answered and said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

25 But she came and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”
26And He answered and said, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
27And she said, “Yes, Lord, for even the little dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.”
28Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

29And moving on from there, Jesus went along the Sea of Galilee; and after going up on the mountain, He sat down there.
30And large crowds approached Him, having with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others; and they laid them at His feet, and He healed them.
31So the crowd was amazed to see the mute speaking, the crippled made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Ὁ
δὲ
Ἰησοῦς

αὐτοῦ
εἶπεν,

τοσοῦτον;
34
καὶ

αὐτοῖς

Ἰησοῦς,
πόσους
ἄρτους
ἔχετε;
οἱ
δὲ
εἶπαν,

καὶ
ὀλίγα
ἰχθύδια.

32Then Jesus summoned His disciples and said, “I have deep compassion for the crowd, because they have stayed with me for three days now and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they collapse on the way.”
33And the disciples said to Him, “Where are we going to get enough bread in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd?”
34And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”
