The Cry of Abandonment
21.1 [MT=22:1] O God, my God, attend to me; why have You forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my transgressions. 21.2 [MT=22:2] My God, I will cry out by day and You will not hear; and by night, and it is not for a lack of understanding in me.
21.3 [MT=22:3] But You dwell in the holy places, the praise of Israel. 21.4 [MT=22:4] In You our fathers hoped; they hoped and You delivered them. 21.5 [MT=22:5] To You they cried and were saved; in You they hoped and were not put to shame. 21.6 [MT=22:6] But I am a worm and not a man, a reproach of men and an object of contempt to the people.
9 [MT=22:9] ὅτι σὺ εἶ ὁ ἐκσπάσας με ἐκ γαστρός, ἡ ἐλπίς μου ἀπὸ μαστῶν τῆς μητρός μου, 10 [MT=22:10] ἐπὶ σὲ ἐπερρίφην ἐκ μήτρας· ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου θεός μου εἶ σύ. 21.7 [MT=22:7] All who see me mocked me; they spoke with their lips, they wagged their heads: 21.8 [MT=22:8] "He hoped in the Lord, let Him deliver him; let Him save him, since He delights in him." 21.9 [MT=22:9] For You are the one who drew me out of the womb; my hope from my mother’s breasts. 21.10 [MT=22:10] Upon You I was cast from the womb; from my mother’s belly You are my God.
The Agony of the Sufferer
21.11 [MT=22:11] Do not stand far off from me; for affliction is near, for there is no one who helps. 21.12 [MT=22:12] Many calves have surrounded me; fat bulls have encompassed me. 21.13 [MT=22:13] They opened their mouth against me, like a ravening and roaring lion. 21.14 [MT=22:14] I am poured out like water, and all my bones are scattered; my heart has become like melting wax in the midst of my belly.
21.15 [MT=22:15] My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue is glued to my throat, and You have brought me down into the dust of death. 21.16 [MT=22:16] For many dogs have surrounded me; a congregation of evildoers has encompassed me; they dug into my hands and my feet. 21.17 [MT=22:17] I counted all my bones; but they looked on and stared at me. 21.18 [MT=22:18] They divided my garments among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.
The Plea for Deliverance
21.19 [MT=22:19] But You, O Lord, do not move my help far off; attend to my support. 21.20 [MT=22:20] Deliver my soul from the sword, and my only-begotten life from the hand of the dog. 21.21 [MT=22:21] Save me from the lion’s mouth, and my humiliation from the horns of the unicorns.
The Universal Song of Praise
21.22 [MT=22:22] I will declare Your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I will hymn You. 21.23 [MT=22:23] You who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you seed of Jacob, glorify Him! Let all the seed of Israel fear Him! 21.24 [MT=22:24] For He has not despised nor been disgusted by the petition of the poor, nor has He turned His face away from me; and when I cried out to Him, He heard me. 21.25 [MT=22:25] My praise is from You in the great assembly; I will pay my vows before those who fear Him.
21.26 [MT=22:26] The needy shall eat and be satisfied, and those who seek the Lord shall praise Him; their hearts shall live forever and ever. 21.27 [MT=22:27] All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. 21.28 [MT=22:28] For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He dominates the nations.
21.29 [MT=22:29] All the fat ones of the earth ate and worshipped; all who go down into the earth shall fall down before Him; and my soul lives for Him. 21.30 [MT=22:30] And my seed shall serve Him; the generation to come shall be announced to the Lord. 21.31 [MT=22:31] And they shall announce His righteousness to a people yet to be born, that the Lord has done [this].
