Chapter 7
Prayer of Azariah (Dan 3:26-45) |
Εὐλογητὸς εἶ, κύριε ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν, καὶ αἰνετὸν καὶ δεδοξασμένον τὸ ὄνομά σου εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας, | 26 Blessed are you, Oh Lord God of our fathers: your name is worthy to be praised and glorified forevermore. |
ὅτι δίκαιος εἶ ἐπὶ πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐποίησας ἡμῖν, καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔργα σου ἀληθινά, καὶ εὐθεῖαι αἱ ὁδοί σου, καὶ πᾶσαι αἱ κρίσεις σου ἀληθεῖς, | 27 For you are righteous in all the things that you have done to us: yes, true are all your works, your ways are right, and all your judgments truth. |
| 28 In all the things that you have brought on us, and on the holy city of our fathers, even Jerusalem, you have executed true judgment; for according to truth and judgment did you bring all these things on us because of our sins. |
ὅτι ἡμάρτομεν καὶ ἠνομήσαμεν ἀποστῆναι ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ ἐξημάρτομεν ἐν πᾶσιν καὶ τῶν ἐντολῶν σου οὐκ ἠκούσαμεν | 29 For we have sinned in everything and broken your law in turning away from you, and in all matters we have sinned grievously. |
| 30 And we have not obeyed your commandments, and we have not kept them or done what you have commanded us so that it might go well for us. |
καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἐπήγαγες ἡμῖν, καὶ πάντα, ὅσα ἐποίησας ἡμῖν, ἐν ἀληθινῇ κρίσει ἐποίησας | 31 Therefore all that you have brought on us, and every thing that you have done to us, you have done in true judgment. |
| 32 And you delivered us into the hands of lawless enemies, most hateful forsakers of God, and to an unjust king, and the most wicked in all the world. |
| 33 And now we cannot open our mouths, we are become a shame and reproach to your servants; and to those who worship you. |
μὴ δὴ παραδῷς ἡμᾶς εἰς τέλος διὰ τὸ ὄνομά σου καὶ μὴ διασκεδάσῃς τὴν διαθήκην σου | 34 Yet deliver us not up entirely, for your name's sake, and do not annul your covenant. |
καὶ μὴ ἀποστήσῃς τὸ ἔλεός σου ἀφ' ἡμῶν δι' Ἁβραὰμ τὸν ἠγαπημένον ὑπὸ σοῦ καὶ διὰ Ἰσαὰκ τὸν δοῦλόν σου καὶ Ἰσραὴλ τὸν ἅγιόν σου, | 35 And do not withdraw your mercy from us, for the sake of Abraam beloved by you and for your servant Isaac's sake, and Israēl your holy one; |
| 36 to whom you spoke to increase their offspring like the stars of heaven, and like the sand on the seashore. |
ὅτι, δέσποτα, ἐσμικρύνθημεν παρὰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη καί ἐσμεν ταπεινοὶ ἐν πάσῃ τῇ γῇ σήμερον διὰ τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν, | 37 For we, Oh Lord, are become less than any nation, and be kept under this day in all the world because of our sins. |
| 38 Also, at this time, there is no ruler, prophet, and leader, no whole burnt offering, or sacrifice, or oblation, or incense, or place to sacrifice before you, and to find mercy. |
ἀλλ' ἐν ψυχῇ συντετριμμένῃ καὶ πνεύματι ταπεινώσεως προσδεχθείημεν ὡς ἐν ὁλοκαυτώμασιν κριῶν καὶ ταύρων καὶ ὡς ἐν μυριάσιν ἀρνῶν πιόνων· | 39 But rather with a broken life and a humbled spirit may we be accepted, as in the whole burnt offerings of rams and bulls, and as in ten thousands of fat lambs;nd a humble spirit let us be accepted. |
| 40 thus let our sacrifice come before you today, because no shame will come to those who trust in you. |
καὶ νῦν ἐξακολουθοῦμεν ἐν ὅλῃ καρδίᾳ καὶ φοβούμεθά σὲ καὶ ζητοῦμεν τὸ πρόσωπόν σου, μὴ καταισχύνῃς ἡμᾶς, | 41 And now we follow you with all our heart, we fear you, and seek your face. |
ἀλλὰ ποίησον μεθ' ἡμῶν κατὰ τὴν ἐπιείκειάν σου καὶ κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος τοῦ ἐλέου σου | 42 Don't put us to shame; but deal with us by your lovingkindness, and according to the multitude of your mercies. |
| 43 Deliver us also according to your marvellous works, and give glory to your name, Oh Lord; |
καὶ ἐντραπείησαν πάντες οἱ ἐνδεικνύμενοι τοῖς δούλοις σου κακὰ καὶ καταισχυνθείησαν ἀπὸ πάσης δυνάμεως καὶ δυναστείας, καὶ ἡ ἰσχὺς αὐτῶν συντριβείη, | 44 And may all who display evil to your slaves also be put to shame, and may they be disgraced by all dominance and their strength be broken. |
| 45 Let them know that you alone are the Lord God and glorious over the whole inhabited world. |
