The Prayer of Entrustment
30.1 [MT=31:1] In You, O Lord, I have hoped; let me never be put to shame. In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me. 30.2 [MT=31:2] Incline Your ear to me; hasten to rescue me. Become for me a protecting God and a house of refuge to save me. 30.3 [MT=31:3] For You are my strength and my refuge; and for the sake of Your name You will guide me and nourish me. 30.4 [MT=31:4] You will lead me out of this snare which they hid for me, for You are my protector, O Lord.
30.5 [MT=31:5] Into Your hands I will commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth. 30.6 [MT=31:6] You hated those who watch over vanities to no purpose; but as for me, I have hoped in the Lord. 30.7 [MT=31:7] I will exult and be glad in Your mercy, because You looked upon my humiliation; You saved my soul from necessities. 30.8 [MT=31:8] And You did not shut me up into the hands of the enemy; You set my feet in a spacious place.
The Depth of Agony
30.9 [MT=31:9] Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am afflicted; my eye was troubled with anger, as were my soul and my belly. 30.10 [MT=31:10] For my life has failed in pain, and my years in groanings; my strength grew weak in poverty, and my bones were troubled. 30.11 [MT=31:11] Beyond all my enemies I became a reproach—and to my neighbors exceedingly—and a fear to my acquaintances. Those who saw me outside fled from me.
30.12 [MT=31:12] I have been forgotten like a dead man out of mind; I have become like a broken vessel. 30.13 [MT=31:13] For I heard the whispering of many dwelling round about; when they were gathered together at the same time against me, they plotted to take my life.
The Restoration of Hope
30.14 [MT=31:14] But I have hoped in You, O Lord; I said, "You are my God." 30.15 [MT=31:15] My lots are in Your hands; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. 30.16 [MT=31:16] Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; save me in Your mercy. 30.17 [MT=31:17] O Lord, let me not be put to shame, for I have called upon You; let the impious be shamed and brought down into Hades. 30.18 [MT=31:18] Let the deceitful lips become speechless—those that speak lawlessness against the righteous with pride and contempt.
30.19 [MT=31:19] How great is the abundance of Your goodness, O Lord, which You have hidden for those who fear You! You have worked [it] for those who hope in You in the presence of the sons of men. 30.20 [MT=31:20] You will hide them in the secret of Your presence from the disturbance of men; You will shelter them in a tent from the contention of tongues.
22 [MT=31:22] ἐγὼ δὲ εἶπα ἐν τῇ ἐκστάσει μου, ἀπέρριμμαι ἄρα ἀπὸ προσώπου τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν σου· διὰ τοῦτο εἰσήκουσας, κύριε, τῆς φωνῆς τῆς δεήσεώς μου ἐν τῷ κεκραγέναι με πρὸς σέ. 30.21 [MT=31:21] Blessed be the Lord, for He has made His mercy wonderful in a fortified city. 30.22 [MT=31:22] But I said in my ecstasy, "I am surely cast away from the presence of Your eyes." Therefore You heard, O Lord, the voice of my petition when I cried out to You.
30.23 [MT=31:23] Love the Lord, all you His holy ones! For the Lord seeks out truths and repays those who act with exceeding pride. 30.24 [MT=31:24] Be courageous, and let your heart be strengthened, all you who hope in the Lord.
