For the end, to Idithun, a song ascribed to David. | For the end, to Idithun, a song ascribed to David. |
1 I said, “I will take heed to my ways, that I don't sin with my tongue; I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.”
39:1
39:1
I said,
“I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I placed a guard on my mouth, when the sinner unites before me.” | 39:1
I said,
“I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I placed a guard on my mouth, when the sinner unites before me.” |
2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
39:2 I became mute and was humbled, and I was silent from good things, and my pain was renewed; | 39:2 I became mute and was humbled, and I was silent from good things, and my pain was renewed; |
3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue,

4 “Yahweh, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
39:4 “Make known to me, Oh Lord, my limit, and the number of my days, what it is; in order that I may know what I lack. | 39:4 “Make known to me, Oh Lord, my limit, and the number of my days, what it is; in order that I may know what I lack. |
5 Behold, you have made my days as a handbreadth; and my age is as nothing before you; verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

6 Surely every man walks in a vain show; surely they are disquieted in vain; he heaps up riches, and doesn't know who shall gather them.

And now, Lord, what do I wait for?
My hope is in you.

8 Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the reproach of the foolish.
