Chapter 56
The Blessedness of Keeping the Covenant
| 1 Thus says the Lord: "Guard judgment and do righteousness; for My salvation has drawn near to arrive, and My mercy to be revealed." 2 Blessed is the man who does these things, and the human being who holds fast to them, and who guards the Sabbaths so as not to profane [them], and who keeps his hands from doing any unrighteousness. |
Inclusivity for the Eunuch and the Foreigner
| 3 Let not the foreigner who has attached himself to the Lord say, "The Lord will surely separate me from His people"; and let not the eunuch say, "I am a dry tree." 4 For thus says the Lord to the eunuchs: "As many as shall guard My Sabbaths and choose the things I desire and hold fast to My covenant, 5 I will give to them in My house and within My wall a place of renown, better than sons and daughters; I will give to them an eternal name, and it shall not fail." |
| 6 "And as for the foreigners who attach themselves to the Lord to serve Him and to love the name of the Lord, to be His male and female servants—even all who guard My Sabbaths so as not to profane [them] and who hold fast to My covenant— 7 I will bring them into My holy mountain and make them glad in My house of prayer. Their whole burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be acceptable upon My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations." 8 Said the Lord who gathers the dispersed of Israel: "For I will gather a congregation unto Him." |
The Blind Watchmen and Greedy Dogs
| 9 All you wild beasts, come and eat, all you beasts of the forest! 10 See that they have all been blinded; they have not learned to have understanding. They are all dumb dogs, they will not be able to bark; dreaming on their beds, loving to slumber. 11 And the dogs are shameless in soul, not knowing satisfaction; and they are wicked, not knowing intelligence. They have all followed their own ways, each according to his own [intent]. |
