Chapter 6
The Call to Repentance
1 πορευθῶμεν καὶ ἐπιστρέψωμεν πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν, ὅτι αὐτὸς ἥρπακεν καὶ ἰάσεται ἡμᾶς, πατάξει καὶ μοτώσει ἡμᾶς· 2 ὑγιάσει ἡμᾶς μετὰ δύο ἡμέρας, ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἀναστησόμεθα καὶ ζησόμεθα ἐνώπιον αὐτοῦ· 3 καὶ γνωσόμεθα διώξομεν τοῦ γνῶναι τὸν κύριον, ὡς ὄρθρον ἕτοιμον εὑρήσομεν αὐτόν, καὶ ἥξει ὡς ὑετὸς ἡμῖν πρόιμος καὶ ὄψιμος τῇ γῇ. 1 "Let us go and return to the Lord our God, because He has snatched us away and He will heal us; He will strike and He will bind us up. 2 He will make us healthy after two days; on the third day we shall rise up and we shall live before Him. 3 And let us know—let us press on to know the Lord; we shall find Him ready as the dawn, and He will come to us like the early rain and the late rain upon the earth."
The Divine Lament and Indictment
4 "What shall I do with you, Ephraim? What shall I do with you, Judah? For your mercy is like a morning cloud and like the early dew that passes away. 5 Therefore I have mown down your prophets; I have killed them by the words of my mouth, and my judgment shall go forth like light. 6 Because I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God more than whole burnt offerings."
11 ἄρχου τρυγᾶν σεαυτῷ ἐν τῷ ἐπιστρέφειν με τὴν αἰχμαλωσίαν τοῦ λαοῦ μου, 7 "But they are like a man transgressing a covenant; there [the man] looked down upon me. 8 Gilead is a city working vain things, disturbing water. 9 And your strength is that of a pirate; the priests hid the way of the Lord, they murdered at Shechem, because they committed lawlessness. 10 In the house of Israel I saw a horrible thing—there was the whoredom of Ephraim; Israel and Judah were defiled. 11 Begin to harvest for yourself, when I return the captivity of my people."
