Heading
A Psalm for Asaph.
The Divine Indictment
81.1 [MT=82:1] God has taken His stand in the assembly of gods; in the midst [of them] He judges gods. 81.2 [MT=82:2] "How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the faces of sinners?" Pause.
81.3 [MT=82:3] "Judge for the orphan and the poor; do justice for the humble and the destitute. 81.4 [MT=82:4] Rescue the destitute and the poor; deliver them from the hand of the sinner."
The Sentence of Mortality
81.5 [MT=82:5] They have neither known nor understood; they walk about in darkness. All the foundations of the earth shall be shaken. 81.6 [MT=82:6] I said: "You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. 81.7 [MT=82:7] But you die like men, and you fall like one of the princes."
The Call to Universal Judgment
81.8 [MT=82:8] Arise, O God, judge the earth; for You shall inherit among all the nations.
