English translation and notes by John Barach
Chapter 18
The two ways
Let us pass on, then, to another knowledge (gnōsis) and teaching.
There are two ways of teaching and authority: the one of light, and the one of darkness.
And great is the difference between the two ways.
For upon the one are appointed light-bearing angels of God, but upon the other are angels of Satan.
And the One is Lord from everlasting to everlasting, but the other is the ruler of the present time of lawlessness.

Summary
In Chapter 18 of the Epistle of Barnabas, the author transitions to the second major section of the work, introducing the famous ethical framework known as the "Two Ways" (Δύο Ὁδοί) tradition (also featured in the Didache).

He sets up a stark cosmic and moral dualism between the Way of Light and the Way of Darkness.

Each path operates under a distinct spiritual domain and leadership: God’s light-bearing angels guide the Way of Light under the eternal sovereignty of the Lord, whereas Satan’s angels oversee the Way of Darkness under the temporary rule of the Adversary in the present lawless age.
Significant Greek Expressions
ἑτέραν γνῶσιν καὶ διδαχήν (another knowledge and teaching): Signals a structural shift in the epistle, moving from theoretical/exegetical knowledge (gnōsis concerning Old Testament typology) to practical ethical instruction.

Ὁδοὶ δύο (Two Ways): Introduces the ancient Jewish and early Christian "Two Ways" moral catechesis, dividing human behavior and destiny into two mutually exclusive paths.

φωταγωγοὶ ἄγγελοι (light-bearing / guiding angels): A compound term depicting divine angels as bearers and guides of light, leading believers along the path of righteousness.

ὁ ἄρχων καιροῦ τοῦ νῦν τῆς ἀνομίας (the ruler of the present time of lawlessness): A title for Satan/the Devil, emphasizing his temporary power over the present evil age in contrast to God’s eternal dominion (ἀπὸ αἰώνων καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας).
