    • but (when a contrast is obviously implied

    • rather (when the previous clause is negative. οὐκ ἔστιν κτίσις ἀφανὴς ..., πάντα δὲ γυμνὰ = no creature is hidden ... rather all are naked)
    • then (as an introduction to an apodosis clause after a hypothetical or temporal protasis and contrasting with the protasis e.g., if they do this, then I will do that)
